in case you havent figured it out yet, kompakt loves tradition and as you know, we have had a longstanding affair with our beloved japanese producer extraordinaire hiroshi watanabe aka kaito. his 2009 full length trust (komcd74) showcased a deeper, more matured side to kaitos now classic sound.
so with every kaito album comes the custom - the beatless versions. that said, we proudly offer your ears and that was the way - watanabe effortlessly has brought together three of the lead tunes from trust through into the calm waters of his ambient bliss.

a pair of bangin tribal cuts from brothers vibe on the first release on the mixx label. >conga terado< is all about the beats, with a solid kickdrum laying the foundation for some killer tribal beats and percussion. nothing else used here, its just bangin beats all the way. on the reverse, >slave to the rhythm< opens with a thudding kickdrum alongside some filtered synths and a stabbing vocal before the tribal gear comes into play. again, no bassline here, just layer upon layer of percussion and drums. should be perfect for the pro jocks amongst you to tool around with.

kurbits 004 marks the return of dan andrei who brings the romanian dirt with two dusty, percussive techno tools. first out on the label side is ramble on, an old school house rhythm. driven by a shaker in a jacking groove and topped off with a rambling vocal about nothing at all, because after all these vocals about >house music<, whats left to say? just put the track on and get the groove on! four sticks on the info side is a straight up techno banger built on a rolling house groove. no funny business, just a sublime percussion workout with little but essential hints of melody to let you catch your breath, then straight back to the groove! we sincerely hope youll have as much pleasure with these tracks as we are. well be back soon with new and exciting rhythms. happy mixing!

three words that will soon be on everyones lips: yes is more. in a cloud of smoke, over a tight booty beat and keys delving deep into thirty years of electronic music, the french londoner sings for good and is all axes out on >thanks for nothing<, making things clear from the very start.

2009 was a great year for these days records, and 2010 promises to be even better. the platform stood out for its innovative yet functional club sound and unique artwork concepts. the new year begins with a new split series under the name universal consciousness, based on the idea of connection between all things, and that all things have been coordinated, and they combine to make up the same universe. the first part is dedicated to two very different takes on spiritual, cosmic space techno. on the a-side argys >sometimes im blind< generates a long and uplifting emotional climax, which features a solo that will forever stay in your heart. the track was recorded at the end of 2008, and despite numerous offers to release the record elsewhere, nothing was finalised and the recording never saw the light of day. soon after the birth of his own label, it naturally fit the platform and seemed a perfect way to start the new year. on the flip side, sheffield born alexander ross, brings forth a cavernous techno piece awash with reverberation and spacial echos that brings a driving yet non the less emotionally captivating moment perfectly in balance with the depth of the a-side.

its blue, its true, and its got nothing to do with…well… whatever. after the highly successful wph purple release by san soda wph is back with the second release in our coloured vinyl-only series. the series where no digital suckers are allowed , the series where producers actually get to choose the artwork – in this case the colour, the series that digs even deeper than any regular wph release.

these cities and their artistic communities, are the legendary ones that remain in history. defending a fantastic track record in electronic music throughout recent times, rosario - the capital city of the santa fe province in argentina - is one of these places.
franco cinelli, nico purman, andres zacco and jorge savoretti are the leading figures who have, over the last decade, turned rosario into the great sound lab that it is. while developing their own sound and story individually, these boys never forget about their common origin, and the vibe that truly unites them together. on this occasion, they all come around remixing their young friend capes >le post< ep.
this record is pure mother of pearl. it is a tribute to rosario and its prolific actors.

>gobbldigook< is the spectacular opener of sigur ros recent album >med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust<, undeniably one of the most hymnic songs they have written thus far. fellow islanders stephen stephenson aka presidentbongo (of gus gus fame) and jack schidt couldnt resist but to transform the complex, polyrhythmic original into an exceptionally ethereal club track. when the angelic voice of jon birgisson unfolds on a club soundsystem it reallyfeels like you are in heaven. the ultraslim percussion groove takes over the tribalistic atmosphere of the original but catapults it some hundered light years forward into the future. thomas fehlmanns remix on the flipside is nothing short but sensational. we have no clue how he managed to turn this song into a schaffel but we salute him and take this as another unmistakable sign that the schaffelfieber is rising again in cologne, berlin, reykjavik andelsewhere ...

after a split 12’’ and two eps from its founders, your favourite vinyl-only label welcomes an exciting new artist for its fourth release. hailing from berlin, hunee is a true music lover, a passionate dj and an amazing producer (not to mention a top notch friend). his recent productions on feel music, w.t. records and drumpoet community have caught the ear of many key players and made him one to watch in 2010. needless to say, hunee takes it to a whole other level with his barrio payment trilogy: from soulful house to slow-mo disco via afrobeat, the producer holds nothing back and that’s exactly how we like it at retreat hq. starting off with swinging hi-hats and a wah-wah loop, foundation builds excitement before a killer organ riff and bouncy bassline manage to bring the last non-dancers on the floor. ..
